How to Apply for Admissions

Apply Online at your convenience, 24 hours a day. You can also check the status of your application online.

Take a few minutes to review our Online Application Helpful Hints for information and hints regarding filling out the online application, required supporting documentation, hints to help you with your admissions essay, and what to expect during the admissions process.

Applications may be submitted any time after July 1 for the spring and the fall semesters commencing during the following calendar year, but no later than published priority deadlines.

  • Electronic Applicants: When submitting your application, a MasterCard or Visa is needed for paying the $50.00 nonrefundable application fee.
  • Mail Applicants: Complete the credit card authorization or send a check or money order, payable to George Mason University, for the $70 nonrefundable application fee. Do not send cash. Your name and social security number should be written on the check.
  • Mail Applicants: Write your essay on a separate piece of paper and attach it to your application. Sign and date the application and send your completed application to:

    Office of Undergraduate Admissions
    George Mason University
    4400 University Drive, MS 3A4
    Fairfax, Virginia 22030-4444

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for all applicants whose native language is not English. When taking the TOEFL, applicants should list George Mason University's college code number of 5827 to have their scores reported. Students transferring from another U.S. college or university may present six semester hours of transferable English composition and six semester hours of literature, with grades of C or better, in lieu of the TOEFL score requirement of 88. Additional information concerning application procedures for international students should be requested from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

What To Do Next

Freshmen

  • Give the Secondary School Report to your high school guidance counselor or principal to complete. (If you have been out of school for more than five years, this is not necessary.)
  • Request that your high school send an official copy of your transcript, including courses taken, grades earned, and an explanation of the grading system.
  • Request that your official scores on the SAT or ACT be sent directly from the appropriate testing service or your high school to George Mason University. George Mason's College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) code for the SAT is 5827; the ACT code is 4357.
  • Make sure that your transcript and SAT or ACT scores are submitted by the priority application deadline to the Office of Admissions.

Transfer Applicants

Contact each college or university attended and request that an official transcript be forwarded to the Office of Admissions. Transfer applicants who have completed fewer than 30 semester hours of college course work at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, will be required to submit a high school transcript and standardized test scores.
